Plan ahead to avoid Easter payment delays

March 13, 2017

Businesses must plan ahead to avoid missing or delaying essential payments to staff and suppliers over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, says Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs), the company behind Direct Debit and Bacs Direct Credit.

With Good Friday (14th April) and Easter Monday (17th April) classed as public holidays and therefore non-processing days, payments must be scheduled to take that into account.

If payments are to arrive in time before the Easter break, for example, then payment files will have to be submitted by Tuesday 11th April. Similarly, if payments are to be made or collected on Tuesday 18th April, then the latest submission date is Wednesday 12th April.

Mike Hutchinson from Bacs said: “Easter is fast approaching and we don’t want businesses to be caught out with important payments being delayed because payment files have not been submitted taking those bank holidays into account. Planning ahead is essential if staff and suppliers are to be paid, and customer payments collected, on time.

“Payment files can be submitted up to 30 days in advance and a helpful processing calendar is available from our website which gives details of all the processing dates around public holidays for the rest of 2017.”

The Bacs processing calendar, listing all the non-processing dates for 2017, is available from: www.bacs.co.uk/processingcalendar
