In January 2020 alone, over £77 million worth of Direct Debits were processed on behalf of its clients – a mix of SMEs and corporate organisations – taking the company’s total processing volumes to a staggering £4,015,245,336.88 since the figures were first collated in 2008.

Late payments research reveals cost to mental health

Late payments are hitting the mental health of small business owners, according to new research published by Pay.UK, which runs the Bacs Direct Credit and Direct Debit payment services.

More than a quarter (26 per cent) of SME business owners stress about late payments even when they are not at work. Seventeen per cent say that payment delays undermine their own confidence in their ability to run a business and 16 per cent worry about the issue every working day.

We’re hearing more and more talk of the a ‘cashless society’. Almost every day there is another story in the media of bank branches and rural ATMs closing, or pubs, restaurants, charities and shops going cashless. A ‘cashless society’ is now a familiar and well used phrase. And rightly so…

Ten years ago, six out of every ten transactions in the UK were cash. Now it’s three in ten. And, according to Access To Cash’s ‘Access To Cash Review Final Report’, in fifteen years’ time, it could be as low as one in ten.
