Direct Debit marathon walk in aid of nan

September 16, 2013

Twenty-two year old Joe Ashdown from Littleport, is preparing to take part in a 26 mile charity walk in memory of his Nan, Betty Ashdown, who lost her battle to Pancreatic Cancer two years ago.

Joe, an administrator at Eazipay Ltd, a leading Direct Debit processing company based in Littleport, along with his sisters Millie and Meganand their friend, Nicola Watson, are raising money for Cancer Research UK by taking part in the 2013 Shine London marathon walk on Saturday 28th September.

Shine London is a 26 mile fundraising walk through the streets of London in the middle of the night, which aims to raise money for research into new treatments for all types of cancer.

Joe and his sisters will join around 13,000 other fundraisers who will be lighting up the streets of London with neon clothing, lights and glow sticks, as they take in the sights of the capital including Tower Bridge, Hype Park, Buckingham Palace and The Houses of Parliament.

Around 23 people hear they have Pancreatic cancer every day¬Ě, comments, Joe, and due to late diagnosis, survival rates remain very low. My Nan, sadly, lost her battle to the disease in April 2011 at the age of 76.

She was a caring and popular character within the Ely community and we thought walking the Shine marathon would be a great way to honour her memory and help others in their battle against cancer.

To show your support to Joe, and help raise funds for Cancer Research UK, please go to http://www.justgiving.com/josephashdown. All monies raised will go direct to Cancer Research UK.
