Direct Debit campaign nets charities £150,000 big break
November 8, 2013
A nationwide campaig supported by Direct Debit processing bureau, Eazipay, has raised a huge £150,000 for charity, giving 120 deserving causes a welcome ‘Big Break’.
The ‘Big Break’ campaign, run by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs), the people behind Direct Debit, saw generous organisations and the public come together to raise much-needed funds for charities and good causes including Shelter, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Freegle, Age UK and Be Child Cancer Aware.
Between February and June 2013, the initiative - which is now in its third year - encouraged organisations from a number of sectors to donate money to a nominated charity for every new Direct Debit set-up by one of its customers.
Bacs also held a monthly online vote, with members of the public putting forward their nominated charity for a share of a £5000 prize fund. Over 120,000 votes were cast over the course of the campaign, with each month’s winning charity scooping £2000, the runner-up £1000, and the remaining money being shared across the other nominated charities.
Mike Hutchinson of Bacs, said: “This year’s Big Break campaign has been our most successful yet and I’m delighted that overall we, together with our partners, have raised an incredible amount of money for so many fantastic causes. I’d like to thank all of the organisations and customers who participated and everyone who voted in our monthly charity giveaway for helping to make a real difference.”
